  • Christingle Service

    Tue 29 Nov 2016 Mr. O'Connell

It was lovely to see all of the children work together in their houses yesterday morning to make their Christingles for the service at St. Mary's.

For the first time ever, all of the children in the school (all 123 of them), made the short walk to St. Mary's for a Christingle Service which included readings from Year 5 and 6, a wonderful performance from the choir and then the lighting of the Christingles.

It was wonderful to see the church packed with children and many parents. Christmas season has officially commenced!

  • Friendship Week

    Wed 23 Nov 2016 Mr. O'Connell

Last week all the children in school spent time looking at what makes a good friend. The children also considered what strengths and talents they had and how to recognise good in others.

In collective worship the children worked in their houses, talking and recording what 'good things' they could say in school (and what they shouldn't say!). The children also worked in houses to create their 'dream jars'.

The school council were also busy and helped to create a child friendly anti-bullying policy which they are sharing with every child this week.

You can find out more on our anti-bullying page: http://www.westoncofe.derbyshire.sch.uk/anti-bullying/

  • Diwali!

    Wed 02 Nov 2016 Mr. O'Connell

All of the children in school spent the morning learning more about the Hindu festival of Diwali.

Whilst all the children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 headed off site to visit the Hindu Temple in Derby, the children in Key Stage 1 worked together to create a wonderful rangoli pattern and story books featuring Rama and Sita. They also made wonderful lamps.

The older children enjoyed making clay diva lamps at the Open Centre and greatly enjoyed exploring the nearby Hindu Temple. You can read more on the school blogs:
