Our topic this half-term is 'Let's Celebrate'. We will be learning about lots of different types of celebrations that happen around this time of the year.
Bonfire Night
We have been learning about why celebrate Bonfire Night. We then explored how we could use different colour paint and glitter to make our own fireworks using cut up paper tubes.
Diwali
We learnt about the Hindu and Sikh celebration of Diwali. We talked about how this Festival of Light is celebrated and read the story of Rama and Sita. Then, we made our own diyas and rangoli patterns.
Thanksgiving
Miss Campbell taught the Wrens about one of her favourite celebrations, Thanksgiving. We learnt that it is celebrated in America and that they celebrate it to remember the first Thanksgiving and the harvest shared between the Pilgrims and Natives. We then made our own Thanksgiving turkey decorations.
Hanukkah
We learnt about the Jewish Festival of Lights and why it is celebrated. We lit the menorah and learnt how to play the dreidel game.
Toy Workshop
The Wrens were really lucky to have someone come in to teach us all about toys from the past. He showed us some different toys from the Victorian era and then we got to play with some of them. We also learnt how to play some parlour games and playground games. We had lots of fun!
