Reducing the amount of single-use plastic at Weston on Trent C of E Primary School.
This year, for the first time, we are marking World Ocean Day.
United Nations World Oceans Day 2022: Revitalization - Oceanic Global
The children are aware of how harmful plastic waste can be and we have worked as a school to reduce litter dropped on the grounds. We now want to reduce the amount of single-use plastic in school. We intend to do this over time starting this week. This Wednesday, on World Oceans Day, we are asking that everyone in the school community is mindful of the amount of single-use plastic in any snacks and packed lunches brought into school. Please try to avoid bringing snacks wrapped in single-use plastic and instead use paper, foil or reusable containers.
This year, we will conduct a survey in school of how much single-use plastic the children see. We will then challenge each class to identify one action that we can take as a school to reduce the use of single-use plastic. Next year, on World Oceans Day, we will review how successful we have been and will plan our next steps.
