As you are all aware, the right mindset is critical if you are to achieve sporting success (any success to be honest). We have worked very hard here at Weston to enable the children to develop resilience and a strong work ethic.
As part of this, we present the children with good role models. For instance, the visit by Meghan Beesley in November 2019 was very inspiring for the children. Meghan talked about working hard and persevering even when things were going wrong. The children thoroughly enjoyed their work out with her.
On May 13th 2022, we were delighted to welcome the swimmer, Joe Roebuck. He talked to the children about how his determination and hard work eventually led to him competing in the Olympics in 2021.
We were also excited to meet Paul Sturgess. He has made the most of his 7'7'' height and turned 'being different' to his advantage. The children were excited to see some of the tricks that he had learnt so that he could play with the Harlem Globe Trotters. It was good for the children to hear how much time had gone into training to perfect these skills.
Paul also talked about how his willingness to go outside his comfort zone had led to exciting film roles in Avatar 2 and Fantastic Beasts among others.
